SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel baseball team was swept Saturday, 10-7 and 11-3 by the University of Jamestown in non-conference action.
A late rally came up just short for Evangel in game one as the Crusaders were unable to duplicate Friday's game one magic.
A first-inning grand slam gave Jamestown an early lead before the Jimmies added two more runs in the top of the second inning. Evangel matched Jamestown in the second inning after scoring one run in the first inning to pull within 6-3.
However, a four-run fourth inning gave Jamestown the extra runs it needed as Evangel rallied in the sixth and seventh innings with two runs in each inning. Both team's tallied 26 combined hits but three early errors proved the difference.
Bret Hoffman and Colin Irvine combined for the first six innings as each pitcher tossed three innings. Hoffman allowed eight hits and nine runs while Irvine allowed one run. Austin Dill pitched a hitless seventh inning.
Jamestown jumped out to an early lead in game two with three runs in the top of the first. The Jimmies were not done adding three more in the third and a single run in the fourth before Evangel got on the board.
The Crusaders scored three in the bottom of the fourth inning as that was all the Jimmies allowed.
Evangel left six runners on base after tallying seven hits; however, three errors aided Jamestown in the finale.
Evangel continues non-conference action Tuesday against College of the Ozarks at Crusader Field. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m.
