SPRINGFIELD – Five Evangel baseball Crusaders were honored Sunday as the 2017 Heart All-Conference Teams were released by the league office.
McVey led Evangel in hitting with a .367 average and seven home runs while Hargus hit .352 and paced the team with 39 RBIs and 58 hits. Hargus, a native of Morrisville, Mo., ended the season on a 13-game hitting streak and led the team with 13 doubles, as he also finished with a .995 field percentage to earn the league's Gold Glove honors at catcher.
McCarty hit .346 while Frye hit .342 with two home runs and 27 RBIs. During the conference schedule, Frye led Evangel with a .441 batting average and 30 hits as he recorded a hit in 14 of his final 15 games.
Republic native, Dustin Eby led Evangel in wins with seven while recording a team-high 68 strikeouts. In Heart action, Eby posted a 4.59 ERA in 49 innings pitched as he struck out 41 and walked just 17 batters.
Joining Hargus on the Gold Glove Team, senior Stevin Cisneros earned honors at second base. Cisneros finished with a .979 fielding percentage and committed just four errors in 188 chances.
