SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel University baseball and head coach Russell Brand announced the addition of former Crusader standout, Tyler Henry, as the assistant coach.
Henry rejoins his alma mater after returning Marshfield baseball to prominence with a 20-9 record last season. He will also serve as the Intramural Director at Evangel.
After inheriting a 3-21 team, he helped the Blue Jays to a 10-15 record before posting the 20-win season in 2018.
Before his two seasons at Marshfield, he got his head coaching start at Buffalo High School where he turned around a program that had won just four games prior to his arrival in 2015. He started his coaching career as an assistant coach at Willard High School where he was the catching and hitting instructor for the Tigers. During his tenure, Willard won three straight district titles and made back-to-back Final Four appearances in 2012 and 2013.
An all-conference catcher for Evangel in 2008, Henry led the Crusaders in home runs and RBIs. He carried a .320 average his senior season and hit over .300 for his career while also earning NAIA Academic All-America honors both seasons after transferring from Seward Community College.
Henry earned all-conference honors at Seward where graduated in 2006. A native of Denver, Colorado, Henry graduated from Denver Christian High School in 2004.
He and his wife, Megan (Jewell) Henry have been married since 2014 and the couple welcomed their first child, Everly, in 2017.
Henry replaces former assistant coach Eric Osner who was named the head coach at North Arkansas Community College.
