Evangel Baseball Splits One-Run Games With Texas A&M-Texarkana

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel baseball team split a pair of one-run games Thursday with Texas A&M-Texarkana winning game one 2-1 before falling 2-1 in the second game.

Game One
Evangel and Texarkana each scored a run in the first inning as the Eagles led off the game with a walk and pushed its lead-off man around to score.

The Crusaders saw Pat Gaul lead off with a single before Harrison Stevens smashed a double down the left line to score Gaul from first. Stevens was left on base as Evangel left three and Texarkana left four.

The pitching paced the game as Bret Hoffman earned his first win going seven innings and allowing just three hits and two strikeouts. Hoffman pitched around base runners in the second, third and fourth innings before working perfect fifth and seventh for the win.

Jared Davis was solid for the Eagles scattering four hits and striking out seven. However, Davis committed an error on a failed pickoff attempt in the fifth inning and Stephen Belcher scored from second on the error.

Game Two
The second game saw more outstanding pitching as Bryan Adames went five innings before Austin Dill pitched the final two innings. Adames struck out five and was charged with one of the two Texarkana runs in the loss.

Harrison Stevens paced the Crusader offense going 2 for 3 as Evangel out-hit the Eagles 7-5. The top of the order saw Gaul, Stevens, Jose Vargas, and Jordan Yates accounted for five of the seven hits.

Caleb Baker earned the win for Texarkana going five innings and scattering six hits and allowing just the one run. Jordan Johnson earned the save pitching the final two innings adding two strikeouts, a pair of walks and allowing one hit.
