SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — The Evangel baseball team stumbled Saturday falling to No. 16 Central Methodist 12-2 and 16-1 in a Heart of America Athletic Conference South Division contest.
Evangel was unable to keep pace with the hot-hitting Eagles who out-hit the Crusader 15-9. Central Methodist used a five-run fourth inning to build its lead to 9-1 after starter Bryan Adams had scattered six hits and trailed just 4-1.
However, CMU scored five runs in the fourth and two more in the sixth before a final run in the seventh pushed the lead to 12-1.
The second game saw even more offense from the visiting Eagles. Central Methodist tallied four home runs and took advantage of four Evangel errors in the second game of the double-header.
Mason Baur scattered five hits in the three innings before being lifted in the fourth with four walks. Ben Loge would give way to Tyler Collison as Austin Dill and Kellan Maxwell logged time out of the Evangel bullpen.
Evangel makes its first road trip of the season next Friday and Saturday for a three-game series at MidAmerica Nazarene.
