PERU, Neb. — The Evangel baseball team was swept in the regular season finale Saturday, 8-5 and 10-2, at Peru State.

Game 1

With chances at the Heart of America Baseball Tournament working in favor of the Crusaders, a fifth-inning rally by the Bobcats ended Evangel's season.

Evangel got on the board first in the fourth inning on an RBI single from Harold Alvarez to score Harrison Stevens. After Peru State took a brief 2-1 lead, the Crusaders answered back with two runs in the top of the fifth inning.

However, Peru State responded with six runs in the fifth inning to build an 8-3 lead. Evangel would get two runs in the top of the seventh and leave the bases loaded when the final out was recorded in the 8-5 loss.

Bryan Adames went 4.1 innings and scattered six hits and struck out two. He was only charged with four of the six runs before Austin Dill and Zach Johnston finished in relief.

Alvarez led the Evangel charge going 3 for 4 with two RBIs as the Crusaders out-hit Peru State 10-8.

Game 2

Evangel saw an uphill battle in game two as Peru State took an early 5-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning. The Crusaders battled back to score two runs in the fourth to pull within 5-2, however, the Bobcats scored twice in the fifth and three more times in the sixth to seal the win.

Evangel again got multiple hits from Harold Alvarez who went 2 for 2 with a run scored. Andrew Edwards earned the only other Crusader hit with an RBI.

Levi Loughridge rebounded from the first to allow just one more hit through his final three innings. He added four strikeouts before Hunter Hancock pitched the fifth and Keaton Winfrey tossed the sixth.

Evangel ends its season at 18-23 overall and 8-19 in conference play. The Evangel athletic department will again serve as host at US Baseball Park in Ozark, Mo. for the 2019 Heart of America, Baseball Tournament starting May 1 and go through Tuesday, May 6.
