KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Twelve Evangel University football players were recognized by the NAIA Friday being named Daktronics NAIA Scholar-Athletes marking the most honored in program history.
The Crusaders honored include Marc Blankenship (Lynchburg, Ohio), Andreas Moeller (Hebo, Ore.), Jon Carlson (Hartland, Vt.), Brady Collier (Strafford, Mo.), Isaiah Houseknecht (Watkins Glen, N.Y.), Kade Kelley (Urbana, Mo.), Zayne Kyser (Salem, Mo.), Hunter Pharis (Canal Winchester, Ohio), Daniel Philpot (Owasso, Okla.), Noah Pierce (Rice Lake, Wisc.), Andrew Poppen, and Adam Schrock (Harrisonville, Mo.).
The 12 players were the most ever Crusaders honored as 10 players were the previous high in 2008 followed by eight players in 2007. The honors date back to1982 when the honor was split into two divisions before coming just one division in 1997.
In order to be nominated by an institution's head coach or sports information director, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and must have achieved a junior academic status.
