DES MOINES, Iowa – A 27-yard touchdown strike with 1:08 left in the game by 7th-ranked Grand View handed the 12th-ranked Evangel football team its first loss of the season 32-28.

Evangel had to fight uphill after finding itself in a 14-0 deficit just five minutes into the game.

Grand View took the opening kickoff 60-yards and followed with a pick-six build an early lead. However, The Crusaders would score 28 points to build its own lead 28-14 late in the third quarter.

The back and forth continued when Grand View was forced to settle for a 28-yard field goal with 13:21 left in the game to pull within 28-17. The Vikings would score twice with the second coming on a late pass interference call that helped keep the Grand View drive alive, also setting up the game-winning score.

Evangel continued to be menacing on defense finishing with four fumble recovers, one interception, and a blocked field goal. The blocked field goal came just before halftime when senior, Dalton Taylor stopped the Viking kick and helped set up the go-ahead touchdown for the Crusaders.

The blocked kick was the sixth all-time for Taylor who is just one behind the Evangel career leader, Daryl Dollar (1995-98) who sits with seven.

Cameron Hardesty threw two touchdowns including the second to Jansen Acklin just before halftime.  Acklin caught 10 passes for 130 yards to lead the way for Evangel.

Sam Morton again led the Evangel defense with 16 tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2.5 tackles for a loss, and a fumble recovery.

Freshman, Will Boswell put Evangel on the board I the second quarter after Seth Cathey forced the first of four Grand View fumbles. Boswell raced 68-yards to the endzone on the scoop and score to give the Crusaders their first score.
