SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – A late rally by the Evangel men's basketball team came up short in an 84-76 loss at John Brown Friday night as part of the JBU Classic.

The Crusaders trailed big in the first half as the Golden Eagles led by 16 at 9:35 in the first half. However, big three-pointers from Clark Brewington and Chandler Lyon at the end of the half pulled Evangel within 46-40 at intermission.

A hot shooting John Brown team knocked down 13 three-pointers and shot over 45 percent from the field. Evangel shot 42 percent from the field but was just 12 of 20 from the free throw line.

Braden Adams led the Crusaders with 20 points as Luke Call added 12 points. Both Adams and Call each knocked down four three-pointers to count for 8 of the 10 three-pointers for Evangel.

Justin Washington added 16 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with just over two minutes left in the game.

John Brown was led by Ben Smith who scored 17 and added five rebounds for the Golden Eagles.

The Crusaders close out action at the JBU Classic on Saturday against Bacone at 3 p.m.
