SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A big second half by the Evangel men's basketball team propelled the Crusaders to an 83-71 win over Missouri Valley Saturday afternoon in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

The second saw Evangel open a 14-4 run before a tip-in by Scott Blakeslee with 8:05 left pushed the Crusader lead to 13 points – their largest of the game. Blakeslee was one of 11 Evangel players to score in the game as every Crusader who checked in scored.

The Crusaders put together a complete team effort shooting 44 percent from the field and only committing eight turnovers in the win. Evangel also knocked down eight three-pointers as a team as Braden Adams and Dylan Bekemeier each knocked down clutch three-pointers down the stretch.

Bekemeier led Evangel with 16 points and six assists as Adams added 15 points and two steals. Luke Call and Scott Blakeslee also finished in double figures with 11 and 10 points each.

Justin Washington helped pace the Crusaders on the glass pulling down 10 boards and adding eight points.

Tim Washington led Missouri Valley with 25 points in the loss.

Evangel returns to action Tuesday night in the second game of the Rib Crib Highway 65 Shootout against College of the Ozarks. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
