BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – Road wins in college basketball are tough to come by. Securing road wins in the Heart of America Athletic Conference this season have proven to be some of the toughest for all schools.

Wednesday night was no different as the Evangel men's basketball team escaped Baker with a 78-72 victory in South Division action after a back and forth second half.

The Crusaders have won three of their last four with both wins coming on the road after starting the season 0-10 away from the Ashcroft Center.

In Wednesday's road win, Evangel shot 92 percent from the free throw line and 23-of-25 from the free throw line. Individually, the duo of Dylan Bekemeier and Justin Washington each scored 26 and 27 points respectively to pace the Crusaders.

Bekemeier finished 12-of-13 from the free throw line and knocked down four three-pointers. Washington was just shy of a double-double adding nine rebounds and hitting a clutch three-pointer in the final minutes.

Baker was led offensively by Tyree Peter who finished with 14 points and 10 boards.

Evangel jumped out to a 10 point lead in the first half before the Wildcats erased the Crusader lead. Both teams went into halftime tied 36-36.

As both teams battled back and forth in the second half, Baker cut the Evangel lead to three, 72-69 with1:07 left. However, the Wildcats missed a pair of free throws with 34 seconds left after a Crusader turnover.

Washington finished 4-for-4 from the line in the final 31 seconds. It was then Bekemeier's turn to ice the game with a pair of free throws with seven seconds left pushing the Evangel lead to 78-72 as time ran out on the Wildcats.

Evangel continues the final game in its three-game road swing Saturday at Missouri Valley. The Crusaders won the first meeting in Springfield earlier this season, 83-71. Tipoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
