SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Missouri Baptist Saturday, falling 87-65, in non-conference action.
The Crusaders got 25 points from Clark Brewington, but he was the only player for Evangel in double figures as Missouri Baptist came out red-hot. The Spartans shot over 50 percent from the field and knocked down 14 three-pointers to help seal the win.
Jaylen Jones added eight points for Evangel as the Crusaders went just 6 of 21 from behind the three-point line.
Missouri Baptist out-rebounded Evangel 39-24 and went 10-for-16 from behind the arc in the second half alone.
Kai Woodfall led the Spartans with 22 points and four rebounds, knocking down six three-pointers.
Evangel takes a week off before starting league play next Saturday at defending league champion William Penn. Tipoff from Oskaloosa, Iowa, is scheduled for 2 p.m.
