Cold Second Half for Evangel Men Too Much to Overcome in Loss at Baker

BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – A cold start to the second half saw the Evangel men's basketball fall at Baker 75-59 in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

The Crusaders led early 3-0 but Baker responded with a 12-2 run and never looked back. Evangel hung with the Wildcats in the first half trailing 27-23 at the half.

However, in the second half, Evangel shot just 24 percent from the field and committed 17 turnovers allowing Baker to build a 20 point lead with 10 minutes left in the game. Evangel would slowly chip away pulling within eight with 1:31 left after a three-pointer from Luke Call.

The rally would come up short as Baker went 22 of 27 from the free throw line and 19 of 23 in the second half to seal the win.

Edriel Martinborough led Evangel with 16 points off the bench and added five boards. Clark Brewington was the only other Crusader to finish in double figures with 14.

Pavel Antonov added nine points and eight rebounds as Tory Stamps led the Crusaders with nine rebounds.

Clae Martin led all scorers with 25 points, while Brett Elifritz posted a double-double 13 points and 10 boards for Baker.

Evangel returns to the Ashcroft Center Thursday night to host rival MidAmerica Nazarene. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
