SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's basketball team was unable to hang on Thursday night falling 79-69 to No. 19 MidAmerica Nazarene in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
The Crusaders playing back to back games in 48 hours were unable to hang on to a late lead Thursday. Evangel and MidAmerica went back and forth 14 times before the Pioneers took a 68-66 lead with 3:29 left in the game on the three-pointer.
Evangel erased an early eight-point deficit in the first half but could never pull away from the Pioneers. The Crusaders led by as many as five points in the second half, before back to back three-pointers pushed the Pioneers ahead.
Evangel got 12 points each from Tory Stamps and Ike Egwu off the bench as Egwu added eight boards. Evangel had out-rebounded MNU most of the game, but a few late offensive rebounds saw both teams tally 40 boards each.
MNU got a game-high 24 points from Jonathan Green who went 10-of-14 from the free throw line, while Dakota Quinn tallied a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds.
Evangel makes another quick return to the hardwood in less than 48 hours as the Crusader host Peru State on Saturday. The third game in five days for Evangel tips at 4 p.m.
