SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's basketball team fell Saturday afternoon, 93-74, to Mount Mercy in Heart of America Athletic Conference action at the Ashcroft Center.

The Crusaders were unable to keep pace with the hot-shooting Mustangs who finished at 53 percent from the field in the first half. Evangel shot 44 percent, but Mount Mercy knocked down 14 three-pointers and forced 19 turnovers to edge the Crusaders.

Evangel hung with Mount Mercy in the second half with a 45-44 margin but was unable to overcome the early deficit.

Jacob Smith led Evangel with 12 points off the bench, while Edriel Martinborough and Pavel Antonov added 10 points each. Antonov missed a double-double as he pulled down eight boards as well.

Dennis McKinney led Mount Mercy with 24 points as he was one of four Mustangs to finish in double figures.

Evangel heads into Christmas break with a two-week layoff before returning to the court Jan. 3 at Culver-Stockton.
