SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A 24-point comeback for the Evangel men's basketball team fell just short Saturday against Graceland, 88-67, in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.

The Crusaders used a 14-2 to pull within 11 points with 4:59 left in the game when Edriel Martinborough knocked down a runner. Three-pointers from Clark Brewington and Chris Stocks would follow to help Evangel claw back in.

However, the Crusaders came up empty on consecutive trips that included a pair of Yellowjacket turnovers keeping Evangel from cutting the deficit to single digits. Graceland was blistering from the field shooting 60 percent in the first half and 53 percent in the second half to help keep Evangel at bay.

Stocks led Evangel with 21 points, while Brewington added 12 points and five rebounds. Martinborough and Ike Egwu also chipped in with 10 points each, as Egwu tallied seven boards.

Mo Jackson led Graceland with 19 points and five assists, while Alec Pena tallied 17 points.

Evangel takes a week off before continuing its homestand next Saturday, Jan. 19 against William Penn. Tipoff against the Statesmen is scheduled for 2 p.m.
