Evangel Men Fall in Saturday Matinee to Clarke

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's basketball team dropped a rough Heart of America contest Saturday, 95-78 to Clarke University.

The Crusaders and Pride went back and forth in the first half before a Pride run with 1:57 left before halftime saw Clarke take a 46-41 advantage into the locker room.

Evangel battled back in the second half, but a game that saw more than 50 free throws combined went the way of the visitors. Clarke shot 69 percent while Evangel shot just 60 percent from the line in the loss.

Chris Stocks led the Crusades with 15 points, while Tory Stamps and Jacob Smith added 11 and 10 points respectively.

Clarke was led by a game-high 23 points from Jared Walker as Josh Meier added 17 points and eight rebounds.

Evangel heads back on the road next Wednesday MidAmerica Nazarene. Tipoff from Olathe, Kansas is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
