SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's basketball team was unable to pull off the biggest upset of the season Wednesday night falling 79-75 to the nation's top-ranked team, Benedictine College.

The Crusaders led most of the game, but never by more than seven points. The Ravens who vaulted into the top spot in the NAIA Coaches' Poll on Tuesday, rallied back in the second half to overcome 18 turnovers.

Benedictine shot 50 percent from the field helping the Ravens stay close. Evangel out-rebounded the Ravens in the first half and shot 73 percent from the free throw to help aid in taking a 33-29 lead at halftime.

Clark Brewington drilled a three-point as time expired before halftime to help Evangel carry momentum into the second half. Brewington finished with 18 points going 5 of 13 from the three-point line.

However, Benedictine missed two free throws in the final minute keeping the game at one possession. Evangel was unable to capitalize including a no-call on a drive to the basket that would have tied the game with five seconds.

Edriel Martinborough finished with 15 points and seven assists in the loss, while Pavel Antonov added 13 points and six boards.

Eric Krus led Benedictine with a game-high 21 points for the Ravens.

Evangel closes out the regular season Saturday at Central Methodist. Tipoff from Fayette, Missouri is scheduled for 4 p.m.
