SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A late second half surge helped the Evangel men's soccer team earn a 2-1 victory over Central Baptist Tuesday afternoon in non-conference action.

The Crusaders improve to 2-1 on the season avenging a 5-3 loss to the Mustangs from last season.

After a scoreless first half that saw just three combined shots, Evangel took a 1-0 lead in the 76th minute on a goal from Julio Quezada. Quezada scored his first collegiate goal on the left side of the box after picking a loose ball from a CBC defender.

Evangel would get the eventual game-winning goal from senior captain Kyler Moore in the 81st minute. The Camdenton, Mo., native picked up a rebound to push the ball into the net for his first goal of the season.

The Mustangs got on the board catching the Crusaders off guard nearly one minute later on a goal from Callum Morris. However, the Evangel defense was able to hold strong the final eight minutes to seal the victory.

Evangel out-shot Central Baptist 11-7 in the match.

Evangel heads north over the weekend for a pair of games in Iowa against Dordt College on Friday at 2 p.m. The Crusaders will follow up with a Saturday evening match against Northwestern Iowa at 5 p.m.
