Crusaders Win Double Overtime Thriller to Win First Game of the Season

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Evangel defeated Clarke in a double overtime thriller Saturday 2-1, to win their first game of the season.

Clarke took the lead early in the second half off a goal by Jordan Perry. Austin Reinold equalized in the 68th minute off a beautiful shot from a corner kick that curled in to the top right corner over the goalie's hand. The two sides remained locked at 1-1 at full time and after a ten minute over time period. In the 101st minute, Jannis Petter won the ball in the defensive half and dribbled all the way down the field and passed it off to an open Nick Wagner who scored the winning goal.

Evangel had 26 shots, with 18 being on goal. They were led by Austin Reinold with 9 shots.

Daniel Statesel made some great saves in the goal, stopping six of the seven shots on goal from Clarke.

What's Next

Evangel continues its homestand on Wednesday against Missouri Valley. Kickoff from Coryell Field is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
