ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Evangel men's soccer drop season opener Wednesday at Missouri Baptist, 4-2.
The Spartans struck early in the first half, scoring two goals in the first ten minutes of the game. In the 32nd minute, Stephen Bates intercepted a pass from the Spartans goalkeeper and found the back of the net for the Crusaders first goal.
In the second half, the Spartans again struck quickly, scoring a goal in the first ten minutes of the half. The Crusaders kept attacking though after finding themselves down 3-1, and Nick Wagner was able to slot one home after a brilliant through pass from Drew Flippin.
The Crusaders had multiple chances in the final minutes to tie the game but never could find the back of the net. The Spartans sealed the game with a goal in the 86th minute on the counterattack.
Wagner led the Crusaders offensively with five shots, followed by Flippin with four shots and one assist. Dinwiddie had seven saves in the goal.
Evangel will hit the road to Louisiana on Labor Day weekend to take on LSU-Alexandria on Saturday, August 31 at 4 p.m.
