SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel men's soccer team was unable to capitalize on a late attack Saturday afternoon falling 3-2 to Bethany in non-conference play.

The Crusaders were caught off-guard as a goal in the opening seconds gave the Swedes a 1-0 lead. However, Evangel was able to tie the game in the 6th minute when Nick Wagner drilled a penalty kick into the back of the net.

Bethany would get its second goal of the match from Kevin Sithole in the 11th minute, but Evangel would again answer in the 38th minute. Jarrett Meyer found the corner of the goal on a ball from Ian Creech just outside the box to again tie the game at 2-2.

The match would stay tied at 2-2 into intermission before Bethany scored the game-winning goal in the 52nd minute. Lisandro Nunez would play a ball to the opposite side of the goal after Sithole dribbled up the sideline.

Evangel outshot Bethany in the second half 7-3 but was unable to place enough shots on goal.
