Evangel Men's Soccer Sees Early Lead Slip in 2-1 Loss to Mt Mercy

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- The Evangel men's soccer team was unable to hang on to an early lead Saturday, falling 2-1 to visiting Mount Mercy in Heart Conference action.

Nick Wagner gave the Crusaders an early goal and 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute with assists from Caleb Dix and Guillherme Candatten. The goal was one of just four shots for the Crusaders who remain in search of their first conference win.

Taking a 1-0 lead into halftime, Evangel saw its lead quickly slip away as the Mustangs tied the game in the 52nd minute. Rafael Passanha scored on a ball from Kevin Kastl to make it 1-1. Mount Mercy would get the game-winning goal from Oguzhan Bozkan in the 80th minute.

The Mustangs out-shot Evangel 12-7 in the second half and 31-11 for the match. 

In goal Josiah Dinwiddie recorded 15 saves for the Crusaders in the loss.
