FAYETTE, Mo. – A trio of first place finishes and a school record highlighted the first competition for the Evangel track and field teams Saturday at the Central Methodist Open.

Freshman Jaysley Cook won the high jump as she finished with a mark of 4'11" (1.50m) to share the top spot with Alyssa Baltimore from Culver-Stockton. Cook also picked up a top-five finish in the Evangel record books moving into fourth.
Allison Newport started her senior season with a bang winning the javelin. She posted a throw of 109'5" (33.35m) to win the event by more than 19'.
Madison Proben earned a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 16.54.
Duncan Gakuru won the 3,000-meter run setting the Evangel record with a time of 8:53.75. The junior transfer broke the previous record held by Nicholas Hestand of 8:54.80 from 2009.
Gakuru also earned a top-five finish in the 1,500-meters with a time of 4:11.19.
Freshman Tyler Waggoner finished in the top 15 in his first collegiate events with a 14th place finish in the shot put and 15th in the discus.
Evangel is back in action March 30 at the Baker Relays in Baldwin City, Kansas.
