CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – A record-breaking performance Evangel men's cross country duo, Shane Burns and Duncan Gakuru both set records as Burns earned the program's first-ever All-American honors.

Burns, a native of Strafford, Mo. set the school record in the 8k with a time of 25:06.04 to finish 30th. The finish pushed the sophomore to All-American honors as the first ever in Evangel cross country history finishing his second straight trip to the NAIA National Championships.

Just under 30 seconds later, junior Duncan Gakuru also broke the previous school record with a time of 25:30.2 to finish 67. Gakuru, who is in his first season with the Crusaders, joined Burns to now hold the top two times in Evangel history.

Current Evangel head coach Austin Jacobs had held the previous record of 25:32.70 set in 2012.
