Personal Bests Fall for Cross Country at NAIA Mid-States

WINFIELD, Kan. — Several personal best's fell victim on Saturday as the Evangel cross country teams took aim at the NAIA Mid-States Classic.

The Evangel men were able to battle some of the nation's top teams to earn a fourth-place finish out of 20 teams. It was also the fastest 1-5 runner average in school history at 26:28 as a team.

Duncan Gakuru earned a personal best as he finished fifth to pace the Crusaders with a time of 25:24.78. Shane Burns also finished in the top 10 as he covered the 8k course in 25:32.21 to finish eighth.

Grand Dewitt also raced to a personal best time as he finished 27th and posted a time of 26:28.89.

The Crusader men finished just behind Wayland Baptist in third, Doane in second and Oklahoma City at the top of the standings.

On the women's side, Leslie Perona capped a personal best time in the 5k as she covered the course in 19:12.2 to finish 10th.
