Springfield, Mo. – Evangel went on the road and claimed two Heart of America conference wins at Baker 8-2 in game one and 16-2 in game two.
Evangel banged out 15 hits in an 8-2 win over Baker in game one. Kiara Carrier went 3 for 4, hit her fifth home run of the season and picked up 2 runs batted in. Freshman Caitlin Buckalew hit her first collegiate home run with a two-run shot in the fourth inning. Michaela Tolliver (6-4) got the win going 7 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 runs with one walk and 7 strikeouts.
The Crusaders won game two blowing up a one-run lead with a school record 13-run inning in the seventh. Both teams went to the sixth tied 2-2 before junior Brittany Arnold went deep on the first pitch of the inning putting the Crusaders up 3-2. Then Evangel went off scoring 13 runs in the top of the seventh to set a new team record for runs in an inning. The previous mark was 12 runs in an inning and was set twice, Feb. 21, 2009 against Northeastern Oklahoma State and against York (Neb.) on March 12, 2011. The Crusaders hit three home runs in the inning, a grand slam by Brittany Arnold, and a pair two run shots by Rebel Robinson and Brittany Hoskins. Arnold's grand slam was her second home run in the game as she went 2 for 3 with 3 runs and 5 RBI's.
Robinson drove in six runs in the game going 3 for 5 while Kasie Zukow went 4 for 4 with 3 runs scored and 2 RBI's. Caitlin Buckalew also went 4 for 4 with a double and 2 RBI's. Julie Blevins (4-4) got the win pitching a complete game allowing 7 hits, 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts.
Evangel improved to 11-10 overall and 4-4 in the Heart of America. Baker dropped to 10-23 and 5-5 in the league.
The Crusaders play again Thursday for a non-conference doubleheader at Ecclesia (Ark.) staring at 1 p.m.
