Springfield, Mo. – Evangel picked up two run-rule wins over Missouri Valley on Saturday at the Evangel Softball Complex with an 8-0 win in game one in five innings and a 22-3 victory in 5 innings in game two.
The Crusaders scored 8 runs on 9 hits in the first game and finished the contest on a fifth inning RBI single by Katie Tollefson. Evangel SS Brittany Arnold went 2 for 2 with 2 runs batted in, 2 runs scored, a triple and a stolen base. Seven of Evangel's eight runs came with two outs against them in each inning. Michaela Tolliver (8-4) allowed just two hits in five shutout innings.
Evangel batted around in two different innings and sent nine batters to the plate in two others in the second game in their 22-3 win. The Crusaders scored six runs in the first inning capped by a two-RBI double by Cassidy Gillihan. Gillihan went 3 for 3 in the game with 3 RBI's. Cailtin Buckalew went 3 for 3 for Evangel with 3 runs scored and an RBI. The Crusaders posted a nine-run fourth inning highlighted by a grand slam by Brittany Hoskins.
The wins extended Evangel's winning streak to six games and they have scored 86 runs in their last six games. They improved to 15-10 and 6-4 in the Heart of America conference. Missouri Valley dropped to 10-12 and 3-7 in the league.
The Crusaders play again Tuesday at home against MidAmerica Nazarene. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. at the Evangel Softball Complex.
