Springfield, Mo. – Evangel had their six game winning streak snapped as MidAmerica Nazarene picked up their eighth and ninth straight wins as they swept the Crusaders 4-1 and 7-3 in eight innings at the EU Softball Complex Tuesday.
MidAmerica Nazarene scored all four of their runs in the first inning on their way to a 4-1 win in game one. The Crusaders out-hit the Pioneers 11-8 but stranded 12 runners including 8 in scoring position. Evangel scored their lone run in the fifth on an RBI double by Kasie Zukow. The Crusaders had runners at first and second with only one out in the sixth inning but couldn't produce a run and had a lead-off double in the seventh that left another runner stranded.
The Crusaders fell in the game two 7-3 in eight innings as they played their first extra-inning game this season. Evangel was four outs away from a game two win until a sixth inning home run by MidAmerica Nazarene's Macie Jones tied the game at 3-3 with solo shot. The Pioneers took the lead for good with a four-run eighth inning that was sparked by a bases-load, two-RBI single by Jones. The Pioneers added a run on a bases-loaded walk and a wild pitch. Zukow went 2 for 4 in the game for Evangel with a run, a triple and an RBI.
Evangel fell to 15-12 and 6-6 in the Heart of America conference while the Pioneers improved to 19-22 and 7-5.
The Crusaders play again Friday at Graceland in a conference doubleheader at 2 p.m
