Lamoni, Iowa – Evangel won both games of a doubleheader sweeping Graceland 8-0 in six innings in game one and 2-1 in game two in Lamoni, Iowa on Friday.
Evangel scored eight runs on 14 hits in game one earning a run-rule win in 6 innings. Junior Katie Tollefson went 4 for 4 in the game scoring twice while driving in one. Kiara Carrier went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Michaela Tolliver pitched six shutout innings allowing only two hits while striking out six.
Game two was a much closer affair as Evangel took a 2-0 lead into the bottom of the seventh. The Yellowjackets scored a run in the bottom half of the inning to pull within a run of the lead and had runners at first and third with two out before Evangel starter Julie Blevins got Sadie Greene to fly out to right to end the game and preserve the sweep. Junior Kasie Zukow went 2 for 3 with a double. Sophomore Rebel Robinson went 1 for 3 with the game winning RBI in the sixth for Evangel. Blevins improved her record to 5-5 on the season pitching seven innings allowing one earned run on four hits with no walks and two strikeouts.
Evangel improved to 17-12 and 8-6 in the Heart of America conference. Graceland dropped to 8-20 and 3-7 in league play.
Evangel travels to Atchison, Kansas on Saturday to play Benedictine in a doubleheader at 1 p.m.
