Softball falls to Benedictine 6-4 in opening round of HAAC Tournament

Olathe, Kan. – A dropped fly ball with two outs in the top of the seventh inning helped fifth seeded Benedictine get by fourth seeded Evangel 6-4 in the opening round of the Heart of America conference tournament Thursday in Olathe, Kansas.

Kelly Bachkora's fly to left field was dropped allowing Sierra Esau and Megan Eldridge to score breaking a 4-4 tie. Evangel tied the game moments earlier on a two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth by Brittany Hoskins

The Crusaders could not take full advantage of four Benedictine errors as they out-hit the Ravens 7-5 but never had the lead in the game.

Michaela Tolliver took the loss despite allowing just two earned runs over seven innings as she allowed five hits and no extra base hits with two walks and five strikeouts.

Evangel dropped to 22-14 while Benedictine improved to 25-15.

The Crusaders play Graceland at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the losers' bracket. Evangel must win to advance and if they do, they would play again at 1 p.m. against the loser of the MidAmerica Nazarene-Avila game.
