Softball advances past Graceland; eliminated by MNU

Olathe, Kan. – Evangel advanced one round into the consolation bracket of the Heart of America conference but were eliminated in their second game Friday falling to MidAmerica Nazarene 6-0. 

Evangel won their first elimination game in the tournament with an 11-6 win over eighth seeded Graceland. The Crusaders took an early lead with a run in the first and another in the second but broke the game open with a six-run third inning. Caitlin Buckalew and Kiara Carrier led Evangel's 17 hit attack as Buckalew hit her third home run of the year going 3 for 4 with 2 runs batted in and Carrier hit her tenth homer of the season and also went 3 for 4 with 2 RBI's. Brittany Arnold went 2 for 4 with a double, triple and 2 RBIs. 

The Crusaders had nine hits in their second game but were shutout in a 6-0 loss to third seeded MidAmerica Nazarene. The Pioneers scored three runs in the third and had three more in the fourth. Katie Tollefson went 3 for 4 for the Crusaders but Evangel stranded 11 runners in the loss. 

Evangel went 1-2 in the tournament and end the season with a 23-15 record.
