FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Evangel University softball team split a pair of games Friday falling 4-3 to Lindenwood-Belleville before edging Friends University, 8-7, on day one of the Evangel Classic.
Both teams scored early in game one as LU-Belleville held a 2-1 lead over Evangel through the first three innings. The Crusaders would take a temporary lead adding a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning.
However, the Lynx would score two more runs in the bottom of the fourth to regain the lead.
Allison Davis finished with multiple hits going 2-for-3 for Evangel in the loss.
Game two saw Evangel battled back after Friends used a big sixth inning to take a 7-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning.
Kyra Parker earned a no-decision as she went 5.1 innings before allowing seven runs with four earned. Taylor Kister pitched the final 1.2 innings holding the Lynx hitless as the Crusaders staged their rally.
Evangel started its sixth inning comeback with two out as Alison Davis doubled to score both Kiara Carrier and Cassidy Gillihan. The eventual game-winning run came just one batter later on a double from Jackie Hoffmeier to score Davis, giving the Crusaders an 8-7 lead.
The Crusaders finished with 12 hits in the win but left nine on base. Carrier also homered in the win for Evangel as she finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and two RBI.
Evangel finishes tournament action in Fayetteville, Ark., on Saturday against top-ranked Oklahoma City at 1 p.m. The final game of the tournament will close with Evangel taking on Central Baptist.
