Solid Pitching leads Softball to Sweep against Avila

SPRINGFIELD – A pair of two-hitters in the circle helped the Evangel softball team to a pair of shutouts Tuesday, 2-0 and 5-0, against Avila in conference action.​ 

The Crusaders were able to run their win streak to five straight games as Michaela Tolliver tossed a two-hitter in game one. Tolliver shutout Avila while walking three and striking out two as she evened her record to 5-5 on the season.

Megan Washam scored the only runs for Evangel in the bottom of the third inning. Washam hit a 2-RBI triple into the gap in left to clear the bases.

In game two, Kyra Parker also tossed a two-hitter for the Crusaders while walking one and striking out four. Parker earned her eighth win in the circle as she also pitched her fourth shutout of the year.

Washam paced Evangel offensively with a pair of doubles going 3-for-4 at the plate with two RBI. Cassidy Gillihan and Kiara Carrier also finished 2-for-4 as Carrier added a pair of RBI and a double.


 Evangel continues home action Friday against Graceland and Saturday against Peru State. First pitch both days are scheduled for 1 p.m. as the Crusaders take a one game lead in the south division.
