DES MOINES, Iowa – After struggling offensively on Friday, the Evangel softball bats exploded for an 11-2 win over No. 20 Grand View before falling 3-0 in game two of a Heart double-header.

Starter Michaela Tolliver scattered eight hits and allowed just two runs as the Crusaders built a 7-0 lead before the Vikings got on the board. Tolliver struck out four and walked two as she improved to 8-6 on the season.

The only runs for Grand View came across in the bottom of the third inning before Evangel added another run in the fifth, and three more in the seventh. Kiara Carrier hit two home runs and finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs, as Megan Washam hit her second home run of the season.

Evangel out-hit Grand View 13-8 and was led by Michelle Sheppard, Cassidy Gillihan, Caitlin Buckalew and Taylor Kister all who posted multiple hits.

In the second game, Grand View built an early 3-0 lead after scoring runs in each of the first three innings. Evangel was held to just four hits with both coming from Buckalew and Lauren Chambers.

Kyra Parker fell to 10-5 on the season as she allowed seven hits and struck out one.

Evangel will take Sunday off before continuing its Iowa road trip Monday and Tuesday at Mount Mercy and Clarke. First pitch Monday night in Cedar Rapids is scheduled for 4 p.m. against Mount Mercy.
