2017 Evangel Softball South Division Champs to be honored Wednesday

Softball Receiving Votes in NAIA Preseason Top 25

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel University Athletic Department will honor and recognize the 2017 Heart South Division Softball Champions at halftime of the men's basketball game against Benedictine.

The Crusader softball team finished 31-22 overall and 22-14 in the Heart South Division to claim the South Division Title last season and will be honored at halftime as the Evangel men's basketball team hosts Benedictine, January, Wednesday 17. Tipoff for the men's game is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The 31 wins for Evangel marked back-to-back 30 win seasons under second-year head coach Jay Halbrook. The Championship was the 11th all-time for the Crusaders and first since the Heart moved to divisional play in softball.

Evangel begins the 2018 season on February 3 at Lyon College in Batesville, Arkansas. The Crusaders will return to Springfield February 16-17 for the Evangel Softball Snowbird Classic featuring seven top teams from the regional.

The following weekend will also be another opportunity to catch the Crusaders at home, as they host the 2018 DoubleTree Classic, Feb. 23-24. The second tournament will feature 10 top teams from the Midwest including 2017 NAIA National Champion, Oklahoma City.
