Evangel Softball Drops Pair at Lyon to Open Season

BATESVILLE, Ark. – The Evangel softball team dropped its season-opening double-header, 6-0 and 9-0 at Lyon College on Saturday afternoon.

Game One

The Crusaders were held to just one hit in game one as Lyon shutout Evangel, 6-0. A five-run second inning was enough for the Scots as they scored all five runs on three hits and one error.

Lauren Chambers broke up the no-hitter and tallied Evangel's only hit in the fourth inning.

Taylor Kister scattered nine hits and was charged with five of the six runs. Kister walked two and struck out three in the complete game loss.

Game Two

The Lyon pitching again held Evangel at bay in game two allowing just two hits. Michelle Sheppard and Allison Davis were the only Crusader to record a hit in the second game.

Lyon scored two early runs in the first inning before adding three runs in the fifth and four more runs in the sixth.

Freshman Abby Emmitt tossed five innings for Evangel as Bridget Rippe was unable to get out of the sixth inning allowing four runs on three hits.

Up Next

Evangel returns home to host Northwestern Iowa and Missouri Baptist in the Snowbird Classic. The three teams will play double-headers against each other Feb. 16 and 17 starting at 11 a.m.
