SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel dropped a pair Monday at the DoubleTree Classic, falling 7-4 to Lindenwood-Belleville before a tight 4-3 loss to Central Baptist in the nightcap.
Both teams battled through four scoreless innings before Evangel jumped on the board with two runs in the fifth inning. However, Lindenwood-Belleville answered in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at 2-2.
The Lynx took the lead with a five-run sixth inning and held off a seventh-inning rally from the Crusaders, as they were able to push two runs across the plate.
Taylor Kister tossed six innings as she walked none and struck out four in the loss. Just three of the seven runs were earned as she scattered eight hits.
Evangel jumped out to a 3-0 lead scoring a run in each of the first three innings against Central Baptist.
Sheppard and Trabucco each finished with multiple hits in the game, as a sacrifice fly from Allison Davis was the only RBI for the Crusaders.
The Mustangs scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to take a 4-3 lead. Evangel would threaten in the top of the seventh as both Sheppard and Trabucco reached with two outs, however, a line out would end the game as Evangel played as the visitors in both games.
Abby Emmitt tossed six innings as she scattered seven hits and allowed four runs. Emmitt struck out five and walked three in the loss.
Evangel continues a busy week as they head to Columbia, Mo., on Tuesday to face Stephens College. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
