FAYETTE, Mo. – A heavy hitting Central Methodist team took a pair from the Evangel softball team Saturday afternoon, 8-0 and 10-2 in the conference opener for both teams.
Evangel was held to just two hits in the first game as Central Methodist pounded nine hits with eight runs.
Central Methodist got on the board in the third with two runs before breaking the game open in the fourth inning. The Eagles ended the game in the bottom of the fifth via run-rule after adding two more runs in the fifth inning.
Evangel opened the second game with a lead in the top of the first inning. The Crusaders scored twice on a hit and two Central Methodist errors to take a 2-0 lead.
The Eagles got a run in the bottom of the first inning and took the lead in the bottom of the second inning on a home run from Alyson Fuemmeler. CMU would break the game open in the bottom of the third inning with seven runs on three hits and two Crusader errors.
Offensively, the Crusaders were unable to rally in to avoid the run-rule, going down in order in the fourth and fifth innings.
Sheppard went 2-for-3 as Holt and Lauren Chambers picked up an RBI each.
Evangel will return to the diamond Tuesday against Oklahoma Wesleyan at Killian Softball Complex. First pitch is scheduled for 2 p.m.
