SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel softball team dropped a pair, 6-1, and 9-1 to Baker University in Heart South Division play.
Evangel was unable to score base runners in game one leaving seven on base in the 6-1 loss.
Baker took a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning on a pair of RBI singles. The Crusaders' starter Bridget Rippe settled down as she scattered eight hits over 5.1 innings and struck out six with one walk.
However, the Wildcats starter, Oliva Brees allowed just one Evangel run while striking out nine and walking two. The Crusaders only run came in the top of the seventh after Baker had added four more runs in the sixth inning.
A big seventh inning allowed Baker to pull away with a 9-1 win in the second game.
Evangel pulled within 2-1 after Baker scored two in the top of the fourth, the Crusaders answered with a sacrifice fly to score Alex Jackson. Taylor Good finished 2-for-3 in the second game to pace the offense.
Baker would add another run in the sixth to take a 3-1 lead into the seventh. However, an error allowed the leadoff to reach for the Wildcats and snowballed into six runs in the inning.
Abby Emmitt scattered seven hits over 6.2 innings allowing three unearned runs and striking out five.
Evangel continues South Division action Saturday against Benedictine. First pitch from Crusader Field is scheduled for 2 p.m.
