SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A pair of one-run games fell again the Evangel softball team Wednesday as MidAmerica Nazarene took game one, 7-6 in 10 innings before holding off a rally in game two with a 4-3 sweep.

Game One
The first game went back and forth as MidAmerica Nazarene jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the third inning. However, Evangel answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 4-2 lead.

A lead-off double from Hailey Lange followed by a single from Cailey Barnes. Lange would score on a Pioneer error before an RBI groundout from Lauren Chambers. Allison Davis scored the other two runs with an RBI single for her only hit of the game.

The Pioneers took the lead back with four runs in the top of the fourth inning before Evangel tied the game back in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Both teams remained scoreless in extra innings until MNU scored a run in the top of the 10th inning. Evangel was unable to score its runner in the bottom of the inning.

Jenna Halbrook tossed the first five innings to earn a no-decision as she scattered eight hits and struck out two. Taylor Kister finished the final five innings as she allowed the game-winning run with no hits and three walks.

Game Two
The nightcap saw MidAmerica Nazarene rally with two outs in the sixth inning to pull ahead 4-3. Evangel loaded the bases in the bottom of the seventh inning but was unable to tie the game and earn a split.

Kami Holt finished 2-for-4 with a pair of triples for Evangel and an RBI. Holt also scored two of the Crusaders' three runs. Evangel left 11 runners on base in the loss.

Abby Emmitt earned a tough loss going seven innings and allowing seven hits while adding six strikeouts.

Arlena Armstrong continued to swing a hot bat going 3-for-4 with two RBIs for the Crusaders. AJ Carpenter also finished with three hits in the second game loss.

Evangel continues home action Friday and Saturday in Heart of America Athletic Conference action. First pitch Friday against Clarke is scheduled for 2 p.m.
