PERU, Neb. – The Evangel softball team split a twinbill Friday at Peru State with a 9-4 win in game one before falling 3-1 in the bottom of the seventh in game two.

Game One
Evangel erased an early lead for Peru State in the second inning after a 2-RBI single from Michelle Sheppard scored Allison Davis and Ashlie Marshall. Both Davis and Marshall singled with one out to start the rally.

The Crusaders responded with three more runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth to build a 7-1 lead on the Bobcats. Evangel out-hit Peru State 14-7 and also left nine runners on base in the win.

Bridget Rippe earned her second win after a complete game effort. The freshman struck out two and walked two as she scattered seven hits in the circle.

Hannah Trabucco helped pace the offense going 3-for-4 with three RBIs while Davis and Marshall also added three hits each. Sheppard also drove in three runs for the Crusader offense.

Game Two
A pitcher duel saw Abby Emmitt battle Megan Hartman in the second game. Emmitt allowed just three hits while striking out 10 and walking three Bobcats.

However, one of the hits was a 2-run walk-off home run by Peru State in the bottom of the seventh to lift the Bobcats to a 3-1 victory.

Neither team scored through the first five and a half innings as Peru State scored first in the bottom of the sixth. A sacrifice fly from Michelle Sheppard scored Ashlie Marshall for the only run for Evangel in the top of the seventh before the Bobcats won it in the bottom of the inning.

Evangel again out-hit Peru State 5-3 in the loss and left eight runners on base. Megan Hartman got the win in the circle for the Bobcats finishing with five strikeouts and one walk.
