BALDWIN CITY, Kan. – The Evangel softball took an early lead in the second game Tuesday to knock off No. 25 Baker, 6-1, after falling in game one, 2-1, in Heart South Division action.

Game One
Baker rallied in the bottom of the seventh on an RBI double from Stephanie Cardona to walk-off with a 2-1 victory.

Evangel had taken a 1-0 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Alex Jackson hit an RBI single to score Michelle Sheppard. Sheppard and Jackson earned their only hits of the game in the sixth that started with a one-out triple from Sheppard.

Freshman Bridget Rippe for Evangel and Olivia Brees battled in a pitcher's duel that was scoreless through the first five innings. Rippe walked five and struck out three as she scattered six hits over 6.2 innings before the game-winning hit from the Wildcats.

Brees who is among the nation's leaders in pitching, struck out a season-high 17 as she held Evangel to just four hits.

Game Two
Evangel rallied back in game two jumping out to an early 4-0 lead after two innings. The Crusaders scored two runs in each inning and then added another run in the fourth and fifth innings.

Abby Emmitt followed Rippe's solid performance in the circle with a three-hitter and four strikeouts. Emmitt earned the complete game victory over the 25th-ranked Wildcats allowing just one run coming in the bottom of the seventh.

Hailey Lange led Evangel going 2-for-4 with an RBI as the Crusaders out-hit Baker, 6-3. The middle of the order for Evangel helped produce runs as Kami hold was 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored while Taylor Kister added an RBI.

Up Next
Evangel heads back on the road Wednesday for a Heart South Division double-header at MidAmerica Nazarene. The Crusaders were swept by the Pioneers at home earlier this season as first pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
