SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – A big offensive day at the plate Friday helped the Evangel softball team sweep Missouri Valley, 8-6, in game one and 9-1 in a run-rule game two victory.

Game One
Evangel took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning and then added four more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. However, Missouri Valley would chip away and tied the game at 6-6 after three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning.

The Crusaders answered back in the bottom of the sixth inning with two runs on three hits and an error to take an 8-6 lead. Ashlie Marshall started a two-out rally with a single followed by an infield single from Michelle Sheppard who took advantage of a throwing error to move to third.

Sheppard would score on a single from Alex Jackson.

Bridget Rippe tossed the first five innings before Taylor Kister pitched the final two innings in relief. Rippe earned a no-decision scattering seven hits and striking out three as Kister allowed just one hit in relief.

Game Two
Evangel ran away with a five-inning run rule victory in game two as Abby Emmitt tossed a three-hitter for the win. Emmitt allowed one run and tallied three strikeouts as the Crusader offense gave her plenty of support.

Michelle Sheppard set the Evangel career stolen base record on Wednesday at MidAmerica Nazarene and continued to extend it on Friday. Sheppard stole her 81st and 31st base of her career and of the season as she is now 15 stolen bases shy of the single-season record as well.

The junior was one of three Crusaders to finish with two hits and two RBIs as she was joined by AJ Carpenter and Hailey Lange. Taylor Kister also recorded a pair of hits as Evangel out-hit Missouri Valley 11-3.
