SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- An exciting walk-off home run propelled the Evangel softball team to a game one win, 5-3, before coming up short in the seventh of game two, 4-3 to split Saturday afternoon with Benedictine.

Game 1

Evangel and Benedictine locked in 2-2 after the Ravens took a 2-1 lead in the second inning. However, the Crusaders scratched a run back in the bottom of the third inning to set up a dramatic finish in the seventh.

After the Ravens took a 3-2 lead in the sixth, Evangel got a single from Ali Raley and then a two-out triple from Jenna Halbrook to set up the walk-off winner. Josie Allcock belted a home run to right center for her second hit of the game and giving Evangel a 5-3 victory.

Raley also recorded two hits in the win as Evangel out-hit Benedictine 10-4 but committed four errors.

Bridget Rippe allowed just four hits in the circle as she earned the win for the Crusaders. Rippe struck out three and walked just one as she was only charged with one of the three runs Benedictine runs for her 10th win of the season.

Game 2

Evangel raced out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning with an RBI to the right side by AJ Carpenter to score Michelle Sheppard. Sheppard stole second giving her 41 stolen bases on the season as she is just five shy of the single-season Evangel stolen base record. Sheppard is currently the all-time stolen base leader at Evangel.

Benedictine would take the lead in the fifth inning when they scored four runs. Evangel would fight back in the bottom of the seventh with the tying run on second and the winning run on first, however, the Crusaders would come up short of walk-off magic in the 4-3 setback.

Abby Emmitt would shut down the Ravens the rest of the game despite coming up on the short end in the loss. Emmitt struck out seven and walked one in the complete-game effort.

Kami Holt paced Evangel going 2 for 4 in game two as Hailey Lange, Anah Noble and AJ Carpenter tallied all three RBIs for the Crusaders.
