ST. LOUIS, Mo. – A slow start was too much for the Evangel women's basketball team to overcome Monday night falling 74-60 at Missouri Baptist in non-conference action.

The Crusaders shot just 29 percent from the field in the first half as the Spartans built an early 37-24 halftime lead. Evangel shot just 3-of-15 from behind the three-point line as Missouri Baptist shot 50 percent from the field and forced 17 Crusader turnovers.

Sydnee Garrett led Evangel again with a double-double finishing with 27 points and 13 rebounds. Garrett was 11-of-16 from the field as well.

Randi Hancock made her season debut for the Crusaders on Monday and finished with 14 points after going 6-for-6 from the free throw line. Alison Jarrell was also in double figures adding 15 points in the loss.

Missouri Baptist was led by Briya Wilborn with 19 points as the Spartans placed five players in double figures.

Evangel heads south to Arkansas for a rematch with John Brown at the John Brown Classic. Evangel will play Wayland Baptist on Saturday to finish tournament action. Tipoff against the Golden Eagles is scheduled for 6 p.m.
