SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark. – The Evangel women's basketball team came up just short Friday night in overtime, falling 79-71 to host John Brown at the JBU Classic.

The Crusaders took a late lead before John Brown pulled ahead with 24 seconds left in the game at 68-66. However, a Sydnee Garrett put back tied the game with 4.4 seconds left in regulation as a steal by Kylee Moore as time expired sent the game into overtime.

In the extra period, the Golden Eagles opened on a 7-0 run to take a 74-68 lead before Evangel scored in overtime.

Sydnee Garrett recorded her third straight game with at least 20 points as well as her third straight double-double finishing with 29 points and 10 boards. Garrett was also 11-of-14 from the free throw line where the Crusaders shot 85 percent as a team.

Alison Jarrell and Kylee Moore also scored in double figures as Jarrell added 18 points and Moore finished with 10.

John Brown shot 56 percent from the field and made 11 three-pointers as they were led by Kimmy Deines' 18 points. The Golden Eagles knock off Evangel for the second time in a week after an 80-56 win in Springfield last Saturday.

The Crusaders close out action at the JBU Classic on Saturday against Wayland Baptist at 1 p.m.
