SANTA CLARITA, Calif. – The Evangel women's basketball team hung with the No. 15-ranked The Master's in the first half before falling 71-53 Thursday night in non-conference action.

The Crusaders battled back and forth with 12 lead changes and 6 ties through a tight first half. Evangel was able to push ahead of the Mustangs in the first half, taking a 31-30 lead at halftime. Evangel held the home team to just one three-pointer and 3-of-7 shooting from the free throw line where the Crusaders held advantages.

However, the Mustangs fired out of the locker room in the second half shooting 51 percent from the field and going 5-of-11 from distance to outscore Evangel 21-9 in the third quarter.

Evangel was outscored 36-12 in the paint as The Master's forced 16 turnovers on 11 steals.

Sydnee Garrett was somewhat held in check, as she still finished with a game-high 17 points. The junior was kept off the glass pulling down just four rebounds.

Paige Patterson helped pick up the slack finishing with 10 points and nine boards. Randi Hancock also finished in double figures adding 10 points and three steals.

The Mustangs placed four players in double figures, led by 16 points from Hannah Ostrom who also added eight rebounds.

Evangel finishes up west coast action on Friday against Hope International. Tipoff from Fullerton College in Fullerton, Calif., is scheduled for 2 p.m. (CST).
