SPRINGFIELD – Evangel women's basketball head coach Megan Leuzinger announced the addition of four freshmen for the upcoming 2018-19 season.
The Crusaders will add three local standouts including Zabryna Hodges and Alexys Hodges from Spokane High School, and Gabby Mathews from Glendale High School. Brianna Vogts will also join the southwest Missouri trio coming to Evangel from Olpe High School in Olpe, Kansas, located just outside of Emporia, Kansas.
"We have a great group of freshman that will be joining the Crusaders this fall," said Leuzinger, who was named head coach on April 11. "This class brings some well-rounded talent in scorers and rebounders, but also student-athletes that are a great fit to Evangel."
Both sisters, Zabryna and Alexys Hodges prepped at Spokane High School and helped the Owls to a conference championship. Mathews was an all-conference and all-district selection for the Falcons and also an academic all-conference honoree all four years.
Brianna Vogts will join the Missouri trio after helping Olpe High to a third-place finish at the Kansas High School State Championships. Vogts scored more than 1,500 points during her career and was a three-time all-state selection and four-time all-conference pick among numerous regional honors.
Evangel senior Sarah Bolick will also join the Crusaders for the 2018-19 season. The five additions bring the Crusaders total of incoming players to six after losing five seniors last season.
