SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The Evangel women's basketball team snapped a two-game skid Saturday using a smothering defensive effort to post an 81-62 win over Peru State in Heart of America Athletic Conference action.
The Crusaders jumped out to a 7-3 lead before the Bobcats managed to score thanks to the Evangel defense. The three-point came nearly five minutes into the first half as the Crusaders tallied seven steals in the first half and 11 different players found the scoring column.
In all four different Crusaders finished in double figures led by Anne Marie Anibal with 12 points. Lexie Vaught and Casy Askins added 11 points as Vaught posted her third double-double with 11 boards.
Evangel forced 19 turnovers by Peru State and shot 40 percent from the field.
Peru State was led by 18 points from Alyssa Marsh-Contreras.
Evangel heads into finals week with six days between games after a three-game week. The Crusaders head to Clarke next Saturday for a 12 p.m. tipoff.
